Call management first

Ask the association or property manager for the moving rules before selecting a date.

  • Permitted moving days and hours
  • Freight-elevator reservation process
  • Loading-dock and truck-size limits
  • Certificate of insurance wording and deadline
  • Floor, wall, elevator, and doorway protection requirements
  • Deposit, security, or move-in fee

Measure the entire path

Measure the elevator door, cab, hallway turns, unit entry, stairwell, and oversized furniture. A piece that fits inside the residence may not fit through the building route. Identify pieces that need disassembly or alternate access.

Plan for long carries

A remote loading area or service entrance adds time and equipment needs. Tell the mover the actual path, parking clearance, and cart restrictions so the crew and estimate match the job.

Protect common areas

Confirm who supplies elevator pads, Masonite or other floor covering, corner guards, and door protection. Take timestamped photos of the route before and after the move when building damage responsibility could be disputed.

Coordinate both buildings

For a condo-to-condo move, verify both properties. Build the schedule around the tighter elevator window and allow a buffer for traffic, gate access, keys, inspections, and closing delays.
