Discuss the weather policy in advance

Ask how the company handles named storms, watches, warnings, bridge or causeway restrictions, mandatory evacuations, flooded access, lightning, and unsafe winds. Confirm cancellation, postponement, and storage terms in writing.

Protect the schedule

Avoid making your only acceptable move date the same day as a property closing or lease deadline. Add flexibility when moving to or from Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, Marco Island, or another location where access may be restricted.

Protect the belongings

Ask how the mover keeps cartons and furniture dry between the residence and truck. Keep medications, documents, valuables, chargers, water, and several days of clothing with you. Do not place irreplaceable records in the moving truck.

Heat matters too

Florida heat and humidity can affect crews and sensitive belongings. Plan water and cooling breaks, and discuss art, wine, instruments, electronics, candles, photographs, and other temperature-sensitive items separately.

Storage after a storm

If a residence is not ready, confirm the storage location, handling charges, access rules, inventory procedure, security, climate conditions, and insurance or valuation terms before goods are diverted there.
