Start with the written options

Ask the mover to provide every available valuation option, the price, any deductible, exclusions, claim deadline, repair rights, and maximum responsibility before move day.

Released value can be very limited

For Florida intrastate moves, official consumer guidance describes a released-liability option of at least 60 cents per pound per article. A light but valuable object could receive very little under that calculation.

Ask about higher protection

If added valuation is available, ask whether settlement is based on repair, replacement, current value, a declared amount, or another formula. Discuss pairs, sets, owner-packed boxes, and high-value declarations.

Check your own policies

Homeowners, renters, condominium, umbrella, or specialty policies may provide limited or separate transit coverage. Ask your agent in writing and do not assume the policy covers a professional move.

Document high-value property

Create dated photographs, descriptions, receipts, appraisals, serial numbers, and condition notes. Tell the mover about high-value pieces before the estimate so any special documentation or handling is arranged.

Verify it yourself

Requirements can change. These official sources are the best place to confirm current information.
