Create the backup before the forecast changes
Ask whether the mover can postpone, hold a loaded truck, divert to storage, or reschedule delivery. Get the decision points, fees, and communication process in writing.
Understand the storage location
Confirm the facility address, climate conditions, security, access rules, inventory process, and whether goods are stored in sealed containers, vaults, or an open warehouse.
Count every handling
Emergency storage can mean unloading into storage and loading again for redelivery. Ask about handling-in, storage, handling-out, redelivery, materials, and minimum charges.
Preserve the inventory
Make sure cartons and furniture remain labeled and connected to an inventory. Keep a copy outside the shipment and photograph condition before any storage transfer.
Keep essentials outside storage
Do not store medicine, identification, insurance documents, closing records, keys, irreplaceable items, or supplies needed during an evacuation.
If officials restrict access or issue an evacuation order, personal safety and official instructions come before the moving schedule.
